REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The European crisis has not affected the export of small and medium enterprises (UKM) commodities from Indonesia to the European countries, according to a ministry official. "We are still able to sell our cooperatives and small and medium enterprises (KUKM) commodities in the European Union countries," said Neddy Rafinaldi Halim, the Ministry of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises deputy for business network and marketing, here on Tuesday.

Neddy noted that the UKM commodities had certain typical characteristics, due to which they could still be exported to crisis-stricken European markets. "The export of UKM`s handicraft products to European countries has not been affected by the crisis, because their [handicraft products] production cost is low and they still have adequate margin in foreign markets," he said.

Therefore, Neddy added, he would continue to support the promotion of UKM products. He stated that UKM entrepreneurs in Indonesia were also able to professionally maintain their business network with the buyers in the European countries.

"If we professionally maintain our business network, many European buyers will continue to order the UKM products from Indonesia irrespective of the crisis," Neddy said.
