REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State logistics board Perum Bulog will import 50,000 to 100,000 tonnes per month of soy bean this year to meet the domestic demand.

"The needs of soy bean are increasing," Executive Director of Perum Bulog, Soetarto Alimoeso, said on Sunday.

He admitted that Perum Bulog had sought the supply from US and Myanmar last week. According to plan, Bulog will be able to import soy bean in September or October.

Alimoeso mentioned that the board prepared nine billion IDR budget for the plan. The current price for a tonnes of soy bean is around 600 USD. "We target to import 150,000 tonnes of soy bean this year," he said.

The imported soy bean will be distributed through Bulog's market named Bulog Mart to create an effective absorption. In a special condition, Bulog can also help government to maintain the stability of the price.
