REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned airline PT Garuda Indonesia plans to issue sukuk. Previously, the national flag carrier did the first phase of 2013 Sustainable Public Offering Bonds on June 11, 2013.
"Possibly, we will issue a sukuk," President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar on Monday.
Demand for sukuk issuance is currently quite large and this is in line with Garuda Indonesia targets to be profitable company in global scope and realize the Quantum Leap program from 2011 to 2015 where Garuda will be a global airline player.
In the end of 2013, Garuda Indonesia plans to operate 139 fleets, consisted of 104 fleets of Garuda Indonesia and 35 fleets of Citilink the subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia.
Director of Finance at Garuda Indonesia, Handrito Harjno added there would be a decrease in number of umra pilgrims this year due to the quota cut by Saudi Arabia.
"There is 20 percent quota cuts," Harjono said.
Last year, 500 thousands umra pilgrims were flown by Garuda Indonesia. During Januari to June 2013, the airline has delivered about 235 thousand pilgrims to the holy land.
