REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENDARI - One of Indonesia's leading conglomerates, Artha Graha Group will seriously invest in Southeast Sulawesi to build a sugar plant in South Konawe. Coordinator of Artha Graha Group in Kendari, Petrus said this plant would spend 1.5 trillion IDR.

"We don't play game to invest in this area. We have acquired land for planting sugar cane," Peter said on Friday.

Artha Graha now conducts a sugarcane nursery to be grown on area of 10 thousand hectares. This land will be a core area of sugarcane plantations that will support raw material for sugar plant. This plant will capable to produce four thousand tons of sugar per day and can supply needs of sugar in Eastern Indonesia.

There are several reasons why Arta Graha chooses Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi as investment area. Petrus said climate and soil quality in this area were very suitable to develop sugar cane. Previously, this company planned to build a sugar plant in Papua.

Artha Graha Group thanked to local government as they enthusiastically assisted investors to perform administrative proceedings for land acquisition. Presence of sugar plant would also reduce number of unemployment in Konawe as it would recruit local labor.
