REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - South Korea plans to increase investment on biomass product from forestry production in Indonesia. South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Kim Young Sun said Indonesia was a strategic partner in cooperation of forest production to support biomass energy projects.
"Climate change is a common concern of many countries in the world today. Since 2008, South Korea has implemented renewable energy policy," Kim said on Thursday.
Kim hopes the results of cooperation on forest biomass products between Indonesia and South Korea could be improved in future. One of forest biomass products is wood pellets which can be used as fuel.
Renewable energy cooperation program is not just looking for purely economic benefits but also providing added value in improving environment quality. Currently, South Korea imports six thousand tonnes of biomass products from Indonesia every year.
This figure potentially increases as Indonesia has potential forests to produce biomass. Biomass is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms. Kim said many South Korean companies were very interested to invest on biomass with Indonesian companies.
