National inflation reaches 8.38 percent in 2013

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that consumer price index or inflation rate in December 2013 reached 0.55 percent. So that national inflation in 2013 reached 8.38 percent.

Head of BPS, Suryamin explained that inflation was usually occurred in the end of the year, while deflation occurred in 2008 at level of 0.04 percent. In the last two years, national inflation stood at 0.57 percent and 0.54 percent.

"It means that this year inflation is no different from previous years. Government managed to control the price and curb inflation," Suryamin said on Thursday.

Food sector remains a major contributor to inflation at level of 0.20 percent. Foodstuff inflation reaches 0.12 percent, while housing, water and electricity inflation reaches 0.1 percent, followed by clothing or basic necessities (0.01 percent) and health sector (0.01 percent).
