Garuda opens new routes from three cities in Indonesia to Jeddah

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - National flight carrier, PT Garuda Indonesia officially open direct flight Surabaya-Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday. The new route aims to meet the increasing demand in East Java, especially for umra pilgrimage or business. 

"Our customers especially from Surabaya and nearby areas now can have better access for umra pilgrimage. They do not need to fly from Jakarta," Marketing and Sales Director of Garuda Indonesia, Erik Meijer said in a written statement on Sunday.

The new service will use GA-984 aircraft type Boeing 747-400 with capacity of 454 passengers, consists of 21 passengers in business class and 433 seats in economy class. The plane is scheduled to depart from Surabaya at 06.40 am and arrive in Jeddah at 01.00 pm local time.

Currently Garuda Indonesia serves flights from Surabaya to some destination cities in Indonesia including Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Denpasar, Lombok, Makassar, Banjarmasin, Kupang. As for international flight, the airlines serves direct flight from Surabaya to Singapore and Jeddah.

 

Makassar-Medan-Jeddah route

Garuda will also serve flight Makassar-Medan-Jeddah on May 1, 2014. The airlines will fly three times every week, on Tuesday,, Thursday, and Saturday using wide body aircraft, Boeing 747-400 with 454 seats available. 

The service with flight number GA 626, departs from Makassar at 04.55 Eastern Indonesian Time (WIT) and arrives in Medan at 07.10 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The passengers then will be transferred to GA 986 before departing to Jeddah at 08.40 WIB.

"We open the new route Makassar-Medan-Jeddah to fulfill the high demands from our customers especially umra pilgrims from South Sulawesi and North Sumatra," Meijer said.
