REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG - Indonesian biggest cement factory, PT Semen Indonesia invested 3.72 trillion IDR for new plant construction in Rembang, Central Java. The factory has capacity of 3 million tonnes per year.
President Director of Semen Indonesia, Dwi Soetjipto said that the initial construction would be carried out June 2014, followed by preparation, equipment procurement and engineering activity.
"We expect the new factory will produce commercially in 2016 to strengthen our market penetration from 44 percent of current level," Soetjipto said recently.
The investment cost is quite efficient, equal to 134.2 USD per tonnes. The new factory adopts environmentally friendly concept with efficiency in water consumption equipped by green open space. Soetjipto explained that this factory could absorb 3,817 workers in its initial operation and 4,917 workers in commercial operation stage.
Rembang's plant will contribute to company's total production capacity up to 39.3 million tonnes in 2016 and 40.8 million tonnes in 2017. Currently Semen Indonesia remains the market leader in the country.
