REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Chairul Tanjung said that government would follow up the revised Food Law No. 18/2012. Government has drafted the new food law to speed self-sufficiency efforts by creating a new super body that could lead to greater curbs on imports and exports of staple food.

Tanjung said that he would coordinate with several ministries to create the law. However, he could not promise to complete the law this week.

"We will boost the discussion of the Food Law, the government regulations, also the ministerial decree," Tanjung said recently as reported by C74.

Citi Corp founder explained that inflation in Indonesia usually increased ahead of Ramadhan and Eid. There are three steps to control the inflation before Lebaran day.

First, government must control the goods supply. Second, all goods must be distributed properly. Third, government must ensure that there are no stockpiling actions. The supply chain must be in line with market mechanism.

He will ensure that the three steps will be implemented correctly, so that national inflation will be better reduced than previous years. Inflation in the first quarter of 2014 reached 7.25 percent.
