REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- The Indonesian contingent competing in the 17th ASEAN University Games (POM ASEAN) finally emerged as the overall champion which ended here on Sunday, December 21, 2014.
The host Indonesia at the end collected 66 gold, 78 silver and 46 bronze medals, according to data publicized by the the event's information center on Sunday. Meanwhile Thailand occupies the second position with 53 gold, 34 silver and 27 bronze medals.
Indonesia took over the leadership of the provisional medal tally rankings of the event, replacing Thailand, after winning several sports in the last three days. In addition, Malaysia got 40 gold, 42 silver, 49 bronze medals.
A total of 20 sports---football, sepak takraw, volleyball, wushu, taekwondo, karate, chess, tennis, archery, table tennis, beach volleyball, badminton, futsal, athletics, swimming, fencing, martial arts, diving, basketball, and pentaque---were contested in by participating athletes," a spokesman for ASEAN University Games, Asdit Abdullah, said here earlier.
