REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PAMEKASAN -- The government plans to allocate more than Rp20 trillion for rural development next year, according to a lawmaker.
"The extra budget allocation of more than Rp20 trillion will bring the rural development budget fund to Rp29.1 trillion," HM Said Abdullah of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) noted in a press statement released on Friday evening.
The fund, which will be earmarked in the 2015 state budget, will be distributed in April 2015 and each village will receive Rp400 million, he added.
Budget allocation for each village will be far higher than that made by the previous government, of Rp150 million, he said.
"This is a manifestation of the Joko Widodo government's commitment to developing villages and making cities better," he stressed.
The previous government allocated a total of Rp1 trillion to develop rural areas through various programs, including rural infrastructure development.
Next year, Pamekasan district alone will receive a budget allocation of more than Rp26 billion.
Said Abdullah, who is also the manager of Madura United football club, pointed out that development projects will not only be concentrated in urban areas but will be extended to rural areas as well.
