August inflation was 0.39 percent, lowest since 2007

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) announced the increase of goods and services, or inflation of 0.39 percent in August 2015. From January to August, the inflation was recorded of 2.29 percent. While inflation from year to year was 7.18 percent.

"Inflation in this August was the lowest since 2007. For example In August 2010, the inflation was 0.76 percent, in 2011 the inflation was 0,93 percent, in 2012 the inflation was 0,95 percent, in 2013 the inflation was 1,12 percent, and in 2014 the inflation was 0,47 percent,” said Head of BPS, Suryamin, Monday (1/9).

Suryamin added, from 82 cities of consumer price index (IHK), the inflation took place in 59 cities. Meanwhile, 23 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was in Tanjung Pandang at 2.29 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Sumenep, Kediri, and Probolinggo of 0.02 percent.

37 cities experienced inflation between 0 percent to 0.5 percent and 18 cities had inflation between 0.5 to 0.1 percent. There were only four cities in the top of one percent inflation.

"This means that almost 50 percent of cities experienced inflation.  However the controlling inflation was good," Suryamin explained.

The low rate of inflation can be an indicator of economic stability in Indonesia. Moreover, core inflation components from year to year was only 4.92 percent.

"If the core inflation rate was more than 5 percent, it wasn’t good, now it reached 4.92 percent," he said.
