REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The driver of Luxio, Frans Johar Sirait, claimed that he heard M Rasyid Amrullah Rajasa saying that he was sleepy during the accident. Sirait was the witness of accident involving Rasyid, the son of Coordinating Minister of Economy Hatta Rajasa.
"I heard he was saying "I'm sorry, I am sleepy" and saying that he was responsible," Sirait said during hearing in East Jakarta Court on Monday.
However, he said that he vaguely remembered the chronology of the accident that killed two people. He recalled that his car was in front of Rasyid's. His car who was travelling at 90 kilometers per hour jumped for 100 meters after it was hit by Rasyid's car from the back.
"I heard someone was screaming because several passengers fell from the back of the car," he said.
Rasyid denied that he said he was sleepy during the accident. "When I saw Harun (the dead victim) lying on the ground, I did not say that I was sleepy. I said that I was responsible for this," he said during the hearing.
Prosecutors presented four people during the hearing; three victims and driver of Luxio. The hearing will continue on Thursday as prosecutor plan to present 27 witnesses.
Earlier, prosecutor accused Rasyid of violating Article 310 section 4 Laws No. 22/2009 which can carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and 12 million IDR fine. According to the prosecutors, Rasyid drove his car, a BMW X5 luxury sport utility vehicle on January 1 at Jakarta toll road.
Prosecutors also accused Rasyid of violating Article 310 Section 2 and 3 Laws No. 22/2009 which can carry a maximum sentence of ten years in prison and 10 million IDR fine because he was a suspect for reckless driving result in injury and death of two passengers.
