Police thwart the smuggling of 4.75 tons of marijuana

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BAKAUHENI - Regional police of South Lampung foiled a total of 4.75 tons of marijuana smuggled at Port of Bakauheni, Lampung. The marijuana came from Pekanbaru, Riau and would be transferred to Jakarta.

"This is the biggest catch so far with total value of 10 billion IDR," Regional Police Chief of Lampung, Brig Gen Heru Winarko said on Thursday.

Arrest of illegal narcotics carried by police officers on Tuesday afternoon at 5.30 PM which was transported used a truck with a fake latter and police numbers. The dried marijuana amounted 82 sacks were covered palm oil cake to fool officers.

Police also arrested two suspected couriers with initial names, SR from Loksemawe, Aceh and ER from Pekanbaru, Riau. One of them tried to escape when officers would arrest them.

Winarko said the two suspected couriers are paid of eight million IDR to send the dried marijuana to Jakarta. They were allegedly trans-national network of drugs. This case were allegedly connected directly to the previous arrest. The police would continue to develop its network to catch other suspects.
