REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission IV at House of Representatives, Mochammad Romahurmuziy said that foreign environmental nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), such as Greenpeace and WWF operating in Indonesia, must abide by Indonesian law.
"In advocacy, foreign NGOs must conduct scientific studies instead of propagandas," Romahurmuziy said recently.
Romahurmuzy said that some companies might violate regulation but they didn't represent all companies in general. Currently, Indonesian wood products have been certified based on Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK).
"Developers of industrial timber forest (HTI) are not need to worry negative campaign launched by NGOs. Government will stand in front of them and helps HTI development follows legislation," Director General of Forestry Enterprises in Ministry of Forestry, Bambang Hendroyono said.
