REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TERNATE - Chinese investor, World Bridge Technology and Trade Beijing, will build solar power plants on a number of small islands in Ternate, North Maluku.
Spokesman of the Ternate City Administration Thamrin Marsaoli said the solar power plants would be built in the islands of Hiri, Moti and Batang Dua. A manager of World Bridge Technology and Trade Beijing, Peter Pang, has visited Ternate to discuss the project and sign a memorandum of understanding with the city administration.
Marsaoli said the Ternate administration welcome the plan as so far state electric utility company PT PLN could not supply power for the three islands. He explained that the construction of the solar power plants would give great convenience for the local people and would help boost local economic development. The Ternate administration also hopes that the availability of power supply will attract investors to the islands to do business such as in fishery.
Marsaoli admitted he did not know about the capacity of the power plants, but according to an initial agreement the power plants would have enough capacity to supply power for household and business requirement in the three islands. He said World Bridge Technology and Trade Beijing also plans to invest in the fishery sector in Ternate, especially on tuna fish processing industry.
