REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government will not implement an economic policy that will turn into a time bomb for the next government, said Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Monday.

"Although every decision and policy we take in the short term of our time of office in 2014 will have implications in the future, we must remain smart and think of every aspect so it will not be a time bomb for future government," the President said during the economic cabinet meeting in his office.

Yudhoyono also said that the government will take careful and comprehensive policy measures.

"I have often mentioned in several cabinet meetings that this is the election year, and we are now entering the election phase but the national economy must still be managed," Yudhoyono noted.

Three things the government should manage related to the economic sector are the fiscal and price stability and the currency exchange rate.

Yudhoyono expected that the economic coordinating minister and all of his staff can manage the economic policy well.

The cabinet meeting was held from 10.30 am and attended by the Vice President Boediono and a number of ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Minister Chairul Tanjung, People's Welfare Minister Agung Laksono, and Coordinating Minister for Politic, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto.

In addition, the United Indonesian Cabinet II meeting was also attended by Police Chief General (Pol) Sutarman and other police officials.
