REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- Scores of students of the Aceh Students Alliance confirmed here on Tuesday that they will extend their support to presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa.
They declared their support during a rally at Simpang Lima roundabout, where they handed over a mandate of support to the leader of Prabowo-Hatta success team, Fikri Aziz.
Two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates Prabowo-Hatta and Jokowi-Kalla will compete in the July 9, 2014, presidential election.
Rally coordinator Fauzi Amin said Indonesia today is in need of firm leaders like Prabowo and Hatta Rajasa.
"The July 9 presidential election will be an important momentum to bring a fundamental change to Indonesia. Therefore, we will support Prabowo as president and Hatta Rajasa as vice president," Fauzi said.
He noted that Prabowo and Hatta were firm leaders, believed to keep their promise and to implement the mandate of Aceh Students Alliance.
"Our trust in Prabowo and Hatta is based on their vision and mission, the result of presidential debate, and the results of other formal and informal discussions," Fauzi noted.
He said the Aceh Students Alliance had asked Prabowo and Hatta to maintain the sovereignty of the Unitary State of Indonesian Republic (NKRI), to safeguard the nation's assets, and to take efforts to ensure corruption eradication in the country.
"They will also ensure public economic empowerment, free education, and equal health services to people from all walks of life," he added.
