REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- Officials from the Clinton Foundation, a non profit agency that deals with social and business affairs of the United States, were scheduled to visit Batam in Riau Islands province to conduct a study on the city's free trade zone (FTZ).
"They planned to come along with US entrepreneurs in October," Batam Authority`s (BP Batam) director of integrated service and public relations, Dwi Djoko Wiwoho, said here on Tuesday.
The Clinton Foundation, an agency established by former US President Bill Clinton, intends to study the Batam FTZ as a possible investment destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
"Clinton Foundation representatives Terry Krinvic, (Director of Scheduling), Tim Biba (Associate Director of Advance) and Julie Becker (Intern Program Director) have previously visited Batam to ensure a visit occurs in the upcoming October," he said, adding that the advance visit was conducted on May 7.
In addition to visiting the Batam Authority office, the Clinton Foundation will visit several industrial areas in the city.
"They will visit the city's infrastructure facilities that support industrial works, especially the Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) owned by Lion Air, as well as airports and seaports for export and import activities," he stated.
Wiwoho further said the Clinton Foundation has learned of concepts for infrastructure related to the development of Hang Nadim International Airport, such as the central maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), which is classified as a high value-added industry in Batam.
The Batam Authority is continuing to develop by building ports and other facilities with a view to compete and welcome many foreign and domestic investors.
