REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Gerindra's Central executive Board, Edhy Prabowo said that the party would keep support the election through local parliament towards legalization of the Local Elections Bill. He believes the party fighting for the interests of local elections in order to return to the Constitution.
"Gerindra keep supporting the election through parliament and we will not change it. However, there is no final decision yet, so we can not assume it," Prabowo said on Wednesday.
If the Bill is not passed this week, Gerindra will continue next process.
"But we do not know where to go. We can go to the Constitutional Court, but the final decision is not taken yet. This is not for our interests, but for the country," Prabowo said.
The controversial local election bill was proposed by Red and White Coalition. They began to support the idea of returning the election of local heads to regional legislative councils. The bill on local elections is still being deliberated by the House of Representatives’ Commission II.
