REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Manpower Minister M Hanif Dhakiri has appealed to US investors grouped in the America-Indonesia Chamber of Commerce (AICC) to increase their investment in Indonesia to help create more jobs.
"The rising investment flows from the US companies engaged in many business fields will hopefully support economic growth and create more jobs in Indonesia," the minister said after attending the commemoration of state-owned Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN)'s 65th anniversary here on Sunday.
The minister said he asked the US companies to increase their investment in Indonesia while holding a closed-door meeting with AICC President Wayne Forrest at the Indonesian consulate general in New York some time ago.
To reduce unemployment rate and create more jobs in various sectors the country needed more investment from domestic and foreign companies, he said.
"The rising investment flows will help create more jobs and encourage transfer of knowledge for Indonesian workers," he said.
Hopefully, the existing good cooperation between the Indonesian and US governments in the economic and social fields would encourage the two countries to enhance other areas of cooperation including the manpower sector, he said.
"Earlier, we also received a delegation of the American Chamber of Commerce/AmCham Indonesia in Jakarta," he said.
