REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- The Mulia Airport authority in Puncak Jaya District of the Indonesian province of Papua has foiled an attempt to smuggle 72 bottles of Vodka on Wednesday, a police spokesman stated.
The bottles of liquor packed in three ABC Mocca cardboard boxes were discovered when a porter of Susi Air was checking the luggage of the light aircraft operator's passengers, the Papua Provincial Police spokesman Senior Commissoner Patrige noted here on Thursday.
The airport authority was ordered to destroy the bottles, and the Susi Air agent in Nabire was able to find the passenger who might be the owner of the packed liquor through the aircraft's manifest, he remarked.
The motive behind smuggling the liquor might have been its high selling price.
"A bottle of Vodka is sold at Rp750 thousand," he added.
