REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman confirmed that the presence of imported shallot from Thailand was a mere rumor. He assured that government had checked it and found no evidence of any kind.
"We had already checked it, there were no such thing. If, for example, there is, of course we will act firmly," he said during an impromptu inspection in the food market operations in Kramat jati Market on Thursday, June 25.
He explained, shallot from Garutwere bigger but when it fried, it absorbs a lot of oil. Moreover, imported shallots have different shape because it was bigger than that and whiter in color.
He affirmed that, until now the current supply was safe because the onion farmers in some areas were ready to patch up the supply. Distribution was monitored by deploying armada from the State Logistics Agency (Bulog).
