REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Police will deploy a forensics team to conduct identification of the victims of the Trigana aircrash that occurred on Sunday in Papua, Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti stated.
"The search and rescue (SAR) team has located the crash site on Monday morning. The SAR team will be deployed to the area if the conditions are favorable. However, we will send the Disaster Victim Identification Indonesia team to assist in the process," Badrodin noted here on Monday.
Badrodin has forecast that the aircraft crashed in the hilly area before its scheduled landing at the airport.
"We have found the crash site this morning. Most likely, the aircraft crashed in the hilly area before its scheduled touchdown at the airport. The crash site is located at a distance of 12-15 kilometers from the airport," Badrodin affirmed.
Previously, the Transportation Ministry had confirmed that a Trigana Air aircraft, bearing flight code IL 267, has lost contact during its flight from Jayapura to Oksibil area on Sunday at 2:55 p.m. local time.
"The Trigana Air PK-YRN, with flight code IL 267, did not land, and we have lost contact with them as informed by the Air Traffic Control at Oksibil," Chief of the ministry's Public Communication Center Julius Andravida noted in a short message.
The crew members of the aircraft were Pilot Captain Hasanudin, Co-pilot Aryadin, Engineer Mario, as well as stewardess Ika and Dita. The IL 267 had 49 passengers on board.
The estimated flying time from Jayapura to Oksibil is 55 minutes.
