REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PONTIANAK -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has expressed his idea to rebuild old markets based on the traditional concept.

The President made the remarks on Sunday when inspecting the Pasar Tengah which caught fire on Friday night in Jalan Tanjungpura, Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

"This is an old market. It should be rebuilt based on the traditional concept," President Jokowi said.

House-shops in one block of the market were burnt down by fire on Friday night amid the working visit of the President in West Kalimantan.

Jokowi promised to renew and rebuild the market which was developed in the 1930s by involving all relevant parties.

"All relevant parties will play a role. The central government will provide assistance. The regional government should also do so - fifty-fifty. The reconstruction must start soon," he added.

The President said that the assistance must be calculated based on the total need, not based on the need for rebuilding of the block which caught fire. But all blocks of the markets should be rebuild so that it will look neat.
