Police name 20 suspects of forest fires in Jambi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- Jambi Regional Police named 20 suspects of forest fires. Jambi was considered as biggest contributor of smog in some areas in Sumatra.

"So far, there were 20 people were named as suspects in the case of burning land and forest," said Kasubbid Penmas  Public Relations Jambi, Commissioner of Police Wirmanto, Wednesday (9/9).

The 20 suspects were from eight cases from January to September 2015. Most cases were occurred in August and September, that were four cases with 10 suspects.

Meanwhile, there were five cases that were still under investigation. Most suspects were inTanjabar Police, four suspects were in Tebo Police, then there was one case each in Tanjabtim Police and Muarojambi Police, with six suspects.

Land and forest burning case was done for opening new land and for clearing land during dry season. The police and the military were still trying to extinguish fire in a number of locations to reduce hotspots in Jambi.
