REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Labor stated than Indonesian skilled labors will face free movement of labor in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). However, official data of Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in May 2015, showed that Indonesia only has 18.98 million skilled labors of 128.3 million labors.

According to him, the least amount of skilled labor showed that the majority of Indonesian workers are of inferior quality. In fact, skilled labor is one of four main capital of Indonesia in facing AEC which will start at the end of 2015.
"In addition to labor, Indonesia also relies to natural resources, political stability as the third largest democracy country in the world, and the geographical location and maritime that is strategic," he explained.
He said, surplus of unskilled labor in Indonesia was caused by national education system and national employment system which was not optimal and balanced. It even led to low labor absorption, so that there were many who become unemployed.
"In fact, in 2020, 50-60 percent of Indonesia's population is in productive age, 15-24 years old," Eko added.
