Govt is asked to handle victims of terrorism seriously

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the House special committee for the Terrorism Act M Syafi'i said the government must serious to handle the victims of terrorism in order to prevent new terrorist cells.

He said that if victims of terrorism are neglected, he feared it would raises new terrorist cell. He quoted data from Indonesian Peace Alliance (AIDA), as much as 1,098 people are victims of terrorist said the state is not present to help them.

"Actually, we need procedures on how to deal with victims of terrorism," he said, Thursday (9/8).

He argued that there should be an agreement that bind the government to pay for victim's bill at hospital. In addition, the bill revision that submitted by the government related to preventing so far only implemented with measures.

"For example, to prevent the prosecution, but the authorities have got the wrong man. They are listed in the organization and were arrested," he said.

According to him, after the special committee communicate with various sources, they concluded there are many reasons that caused a person involve in terrorist activities. Therefore he affirmed, that Indonesian change their mindset about terrorism.
