REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said if the 35,000 megawatt power project is completed after the 2019 deadline, it would not pose any problem.

The important thing is that the state will maintain electricity reserves in case the 35,000 MW power project is completed after the 2019 deadline. "There is no problem if the deadline passes. What we need to watch out for is that we must not find ourselves without power reserves," the minister stated after opening the Indonesia Marine Plastic Debris Summit here on Tuesday.

Luhut noted that Singapore's electricity reserves have reached almost 80 percent. He acknowledged that only about 10,000 MW worth of generation would be possible by 2019, as per the result of an audit carried out by the government's development finance comptroller (BPKP).

He noted that projects worth 7,000 MW under the TP1/TP2 program initiated by the previous government are expected to be completed by 2019.

As of now, projects for generating a total of 9,000 MW power were still under construction. "Projects to generate about 16,000 MW - 17,000 MW will stay apace as per the commercial operational date (COD) of 2019. We will have to audit once again but I am sure the results will be close to that estimate," he informed.

Luhut observed that his side was continuously pushing ahead to ensure that 9,000 MW worth of projects are finished on time.
