REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Deputy of General Secretary of Democratic Party, Didi Irawadi Syamsuddin, insisted there was a strong allegation of wiretapping did by Ahok’s team. He said it was clear and could not be denied. 

According to him, the statement of Ahok’s legal advisor said that they held an evidence, transcript, or whatever it was, showed there was a conversation between the former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and the Chairman of Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) KH Ma’ruf Amin, clarified the allegation of illegal wiretapping by Ahok. 

''Ahok’s team also clearly stated the date on October 6, 2014 at about 10:16 am. It strengthen the allegation of wiretapping by Ahok’s team,” he said on a press release issued on Friday.

Didi said wiretapping was a serious threat. It violated Article 47 of Law on ITE, stated that any violation on wiretapping could be charged by maximum 10 years of imprisonment or fine for 800 millions rupiahs. Therefore, he asked the police to be proactive in processing the case. He said it did not need reports from the victims or the injured party. 

“It was not a crime by complaint. A wiretapping was a violation for Indonesian state and society. Illegal wiretapping was a crime,” he said. 

He insisted that the law should be enforced. Every citizen should get equal treatment before the law. When the police did not immediately take an action to examine Ahok’s team, he said, the police had been cherry picking in dealing with cases. The police placed Ahok as a special citizen before the law. 

'Justice should be enforced. Every citizen should get equal treatment before the law, no exception for Ahok as the Governor of Jakarta,” said him.
