REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has urged owners to begin operating their logistics trucks seven days after Eid al-Fitr or on H+7.

The Kadin made the appeal to owners to begin operating their trucks on Monday (July 3), although the restriction of truck movement by the government would end on June 29 or H+3.

"If trucks are operated based on the government regulation, namely on June 30 or H+4, it would coincide with the backflow of Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran travelers who are returning after celebrating the festivity in their hometowns," Kadin Chairman for Transportation Carmelita Hartoto said in a written statement here on Wednesday (June 28).

The Kadin chairman stated that the government's step to issue regulation on the restriction of the movement of cargo cars for eight days during the Lebaran season is a step that should be appreciated.

After all, the policy is taken involving more than government institutions and is aimed at reducing the density of traffic in the main lanes that are used by Lebaran travelers.

The Ministry of Transportation had earlier forecast that the number of travelers during the Lebaran season this year would reach 19 million, or up 5.5 percent, from 18 million visitors in 2016.

"The total number of travelers is expected to reach 19 million, of which 5.4 million will travel using modes of air transportation, or an increase by nine percent. The growth in the number of passengers using sea and land transportation is relatively stable, while travelers using means of private transportation are estimated to increase by 10 percent," Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said last week.
