REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former Golkar party chairman Setya Novanto (Setnov) recommended Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to partner with Gatot Nurmantyo in the General Election 2019. He believed General the former TNI commander will be the best running mate for Jokowi as presidential candidate.

Setnov admited the trend has not been visible at the moment. Nevertheless, he said Jokowi would consider basic requirements. "Mr Gatot is a good candidate," he remarked on Monday (Feb 26). 

According to Setnov, Gatot able to cooperate with civilian as well as military. He also thought now is the time for Gatot to join political activities. "More over, Mr Gatot is a clean man," he said.

Setnov proposed Gatot's name as he did not see prospective vice president candidate from Golkar party. He let Golkar party chairman to decide the nomination. "I do not have the guts to mention other name," he said jokingly.  

Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, used her prerogative right to appoint Jokowi as the presidential candidate for 2019 elections. She made the statement during the party's third national working meeting in Denpasar, Bali, held on Friday (Feb 23). 

PDIP has not determined any specific name as Jokowi's running mate. PDIP to start communicating with other political parties that have expressed support to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi's) reelection, secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto said here on Saturday (Feb 24).

Hasto stated that "actually, there has been a clear picture of the future coalition. We will invite political parties that have already expressed support to Jokowi's reelection to a dialog." He noted that PDIP will also hold a dialog with other parties that have not expressed support.
