REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- The Bontang City government plans to construct an Rp11 billion worth motor-racing circuit to encourage the young racers in the region.
During the Regional Road Race Championship on Sunday (Feb. 15), Bontang Mayor Adi Dharma stated that the government has allocated a budget of Rp11 billion and a 12-hectare plot of land to build the circuit.
"One of the considerations to build the motor circuit is the high enthusiasm and potential of Bontang's young racers, which need to be developed and supported by the government, one of which is by providing proper infrastructure," he remarked.
Moreover, Dharma pointed out that the current racing circuit was non-permanent, non-standardized, and in a bad condition, which might endanger the racers' safety.
Currently, Bontang is awaiting the Indonesian Motor Association's (IMI's) standardized circuit design before the authorities can proceed with the groundbreaking.
Dharma noted that the circuit will serve as a venue for local and provincial two-wheeler automotive events.
