REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bank Indonesia (BI) launches Sharia Economic and Finance Report (LEKSI) 2020 on Wednesday (31/3). The report is part of the central bank's effort to support the tranformation of the economy and Islamic finance as a source of new economic growth engines.

"The sharia economic transformation is carried out optimally to push national economic growth," Governor of Bank Indonesia Perry Warjiyo said in a virtual launch of the report.

The theme raised in the report is 'Synergize in Building Sharia Economics and Finance'. The theme is in line with efforts to strengthen the momentum of national economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. LEKSI not only provides an overview of the sharia economic in Indonesia but also can assist the formulation policies needed for further development.

The sharia economic transformation is pursued through the development of a halal value chain ecosystem in leading sectors. The basic principle of sharia economic is to encourage the optimization of all resources and technology, which will always lead to productive economic and activities.

The role of sharia economic policy in national economic recovery runs through three things. First, through its role as part of the main policy mix of Bank Indonesia, including synergies between authorities.

Second, through its role in supporting the resilience of sharia businesses through economic empowerment in sharia MSMEs as well as in Islamic boarding schools. Third, through their role in the optimization of Islamic social finance such as zakat, infaq, and waqf in accordance with the principles of their use.

"Zakat, infaq, and waqf mitigates increasing poverty and inequality," Perry said.

LEKSI is also one of the programs to improve sharia economic literacy in Indonesia. LEKSI contains various details of information, but in broad outline it can be grouped based on four quantities. Among them are the sharia economic development policy, the sharia economic development and program, the development and program of Islamic finance, as well as sharia economic education.
