REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- An unusual thing happens in the Gunung Gede and Pangrango areas in Bogor Regency of West Java. The area, which was usually just cold, was suddenly showered with snow. Temperatures there reached zero degrees Celsius in the summer of July this year.

Mountaineers are required to be extra vigilant. They must complete all climbing needs in order to avoid hypothermia.

Hypothermia is a medical emergency that occurs when the body loses heat faster than the heat it generates. This condition causes the body temperature to be very low. Normal body temperature is 37 degrees Celsius, while when experiencing hypothermia, body temperature will be below 35 degrees Celsius.

When hypothermia occurs, it can affect the functioning of the heart, nervous system, and other organs so that they do not function properly. If not addressed immediately, hypothermia can lead to complete failure of the functioning of the heart and respiratory system.

Well, there is a verse of the Quran that delves into the mystery of the mountain, namely an Nahl verse 15 below.

He set up mountains in the earth so that the earth would not shake with you, and He created rivers and roads for you to be guided.

Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Nashir as-Sa'di in his commentary explains the following:

Allah has set up the great mountain of the earth, so that the earth does not move and shake with man. Until they were able to grow crops, build houses, and walk on its surface.

Among His graces was that He made the river which was driven from a distant region to the land that needed it, as their drink and their beasts and (watering) their crops; the river (some that was in the ground and there was a river submerged therein (artesian) they explored it by digging it (first) until it was found with the help of lead drills and other implements.

Another proof of His mercy, God created a path on earth, that is, a path that connects distant villages “so that you may be guided” the path to it. Till thou shalt find a land which is joined by a mountain, which forms a line therewith, and Allah hath made a gap and a passageway in the midst of it for the pillars of the road.

The extraordinary mystery associated with the mountain is that it turns out the God's creature is a pillar that supports the earth and is a source of life that supplies water to the lowlands. Even though at first glance, the mountain spews lava when it erupts and causes a number of terrible disasters.

From this it can be seen that with all the goodness that exists in the mountains, humans must be grateful. By being grateful, they will increasingly receive blessings and be closer to Allah in various circumstances.
