REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Anis Matta is one of the names filling the Red and White Cabinet led by Prabowo Subianto. Anis Matta filled the post of deputy foreign minister alongside two other names, Armanatha Nasir and Arif Havas Oegroseno. These three ministers will assist Foreign Minister Sugiono's duties in carrying out RI's diplomatic missions abroad.
Anis Matta will focus for foreign affairs related issues of the Islamic world. International relations observer Teuku Rezasyah judged that the appointment of Anis Matta as a deputy foreign minister focusing on issues in the Islamic world was a good fit.
Anis has a very clear and detailed vision of Indonesia and has an extensive track record in the field of international organization. In addition, Anis has long been active in various international activities based on society and the glory of mankind.
The role that Anis can play as Wamenlu is to build real cooperation with groups of Islamic countries in various international organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League. The real cooperation in question is in the fields of investment, trade, technology, education, health and dialogue between civilizations.
With the new post, Anis is expected to continue to delve into the fundamental problems facing the Islamic world including the low level of all criteria in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the areas of education and general welfare, interlocking technologies and the low capacity of human resources and organizations in carrying out sustainable development.
Through his position as Wamen, Anis is expected to be able to play an active role in various High-Level Conferences (Summits) such as the OIC, the Non-Aligned Movement (GNB), the Arab League, bringing the spirit of Dasasila Bandung, which is still considered relevant until now.
Another hope for Anis is that he can knit the solidarity of the world's Islamic community to accelerate the independence of the Palestinian people to become a sovereign and united state with territorial boundaries recognized by the United Nations (UN).
It is also hoped that Wamen Anis will be able to build a moral coalition at the global level to reform the UN Security Council, which until now has only been played by five veto-wielding countries.
Meanwhile, Middle East Observer Muhammad Syaroni Rofii, said that judging by Anis Matta's background as an activist and chairman of religious political parties, Wamen Anis has insight into the field of international relations.
“Insightedly, I think Anis has insight in the field of international relations. Regarding the appointment on issues of the Islamic world, of course it is the authority of the Minister to distribute duties to whom he is given, because in the structure of the Ministry, the Minister is the policy decider”, he said.
Anis is considered to maximize his role as the Minister of the Islamic world to mobilize the potential of the OIC, the D-8 Economic Cooperation Organization and other similar organizations to support Indonesia's national interests.
“The Islamic world is very potential, but it has not been systematically cultivated and continues. It is not enough just diplomatic meetings, there must still be economic activity and other activities,” he said.
