Ministry of Commerce: Halal Obligation in October to Increase Value Added
BPJPH ensures that it will also be extra careful in applying sanctions.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Ministry of Religious Affairs) through the Organizing Agency for Halal Products Guarantee (BPJPH) explained that one of the goals of the Mandatory Halal October program is to increase added value to business operators in the country.
“There is a view that if we are Islamic, then all products especially food and drinks are definitely halal, and this is what we need to straighten out,” said Functional Expert Muda of the Center for Cooperation and Standardization of BPJPH AM Rozak in Padang, West Sumatra, Saturday (4/5/2024).
Rozak insists that the idea of halal certification of products is not necessarily only to ensure that a product sold by business operators is guaranteed its purity. However, far from it, halal certification is also to raise added value for the business operator itself. Regarding the supervision of business products that are already certified halal, BPJPH said it will be maximized after the implementation of the Mandatory Halal program in October.
“There are three stages for product supervision, one of which is sanctions to business operators up to a ban on the sale of products,” he said.
Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially BPJPH, is still drafting supervision regulations that are most suitable for business operators in the country. Don't let it cause a stir in the public.
BPJPH also ensures that it will be extra careful in applying sanctions to business operators whose turnover per month is still below Rp 500 million. Including the treatment of sanctions between high-income SMEs and those that are still small.
Meanwhile, the head of the People's Welfare Bureau (Kesra) of the Regional Secretariat of Sumbar Al Amin province said that before the halal certification is issued there are a number of conditions that applicants must meet.
According to him, in order for halal certification not only to be limited to display, business operators must have inherent supervision or have awareness of the licenses issued by BPJPH.
“In addition, once the certification is issued, BPJPH and related services must also regularly supervise at least once every six months,” he said.
