REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Waskita Karya Tbk completed the National Strategic Project (PSN). One of them is by holding the inauguration ceremony of the Karian Dam conducted by President Joko Widodo in Lebak Regency, Banten.
The president said the dam became one of the largest dams the country had built. The dam, he said, would provide benefits in Banten Province as well as in Jakarta Province and a small part in West Java Province.
President Jokowi also said that Karian Dam provides irrigation benefits for 22,000 hectares of paddy fields located in Tangerang City, West Jakarta, and Bogor Regency.
“This dam is also useful for flood controllers in Serang Regency and Rangkasbitung District. The dam also serves as a microhydro power plant generating 1.8 MW of electricity,” he said in an official statement on Tuesday (9/1/2024).
The inauguration ceremony was held at Karian Dam, Rangkasbitung Subdistrict, Lebak Regency, Banten. Also present at the inauguration were PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, ATR/BPN Minister Hadi Tjahjanto and Pj Governor of Banten Al Muktabar.
Waskita Karya President Director Muhammad Hanugroho explained that the project, which uses grants from the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of South Korea and the State Budget, is the third largest dam in Indonesia. It has also been a positive step for the government in managing water and energy.
“Karian Dam is one of the National Strategic Projects and is the third largest dam in Indonesia after Jatiluhur Dam and Jatigede Dam. It has an inundation area of 1773 hectares with a gross capacity of 314.7 million cubic meters and an effective holding capacity of 207.48 million cubic meters,” Hanugroho said.
The Karian Dam also, he said, has some benefits. Among them, it can be a supplement for Cijung Irrigation Area (DI) of 22,000 hectares, raw water provider for Lebak Regency and Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City and DKI Jakarta Province at 9.1 cubic meters per second and as raw water supply for Cilegon City and Serang Regency at 5.5 cubic meters per second.
“As Mr. President said, Karian Dam is also useful as a flood controller with a reduction capability of 657.5 cubic meters per second. It has the potential to become a microhydro electric power plant (PLTMH) of 1.8 MW,” he said.
It is hoped that the dam can become a water tourism destination and economic argo for the local community. For information, the project with a total investment value of Rp 1.8 trillion was carried out in a joint operation with DAELIM (South Korea) with a share of 51 percent, Waskita Karya 22 percent, and Wijaya Karya 27 percent, so Waskita has a share of Rp 396 billion.
