REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono believes the flood and rob control program in Tambaklorok in Phase II, including the construction of levees, will be effective in dealing with flooding and flooding in Semarang, Java Middle. The 3.6-kilometer (km-long) marine levee project is slated to be completed in August.

“I think this will be a pilot as President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said because this area along Pantura needs to be addressed because it is also experiencing land subsidence, so not only Jakarta, but also Tegal, Pekalongan, Demak, including Semarang,” Minister Basuki said in his statement on Monday (17/6/2024).

Basuki on Monday accompanied President Jokowi to review the Flood Control and Rob Phase II Program and the Arrangement of the Fishermen's Village Area in Tambaklorok, Semarang.

“For this area of 56 hectares, we carried out the arrangement of the area as well as flood and rob control and at the moment everything has been closed so that there will be no more flooding and flooding in this Tambaklorok area,” Basuki said.

Basuki explained that in the flood control system there are also two retention ponds or shelters that have an area of 12.02 hectares and 8.57 hectares. Each of the retention pools also features a pump with a capacity of 3 x 500 liters per second.

“The whole progress has been 85 percent. It will all be completed by August 2024. The land clearance was carried out by the Semarang City Government, and the development by the Ministry of PUPR, so there was collaboration,” Basuki said.

The flood and rob control program in Tambaklorok Phase II area began to be implemented by the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of PUPR in 2022 with a budget allocation of Rp 231.6 billion. Meanwhile, the Planning of the Fishermen Village Area in Tambaklorok was carried out by Ditjen Cipta Karya of the Ministry of PUPR from May 2017. The amount of the budget allocated for the arrangement of the area amounted to IDR 45.6 billion.

President Jokowi said this flood and rob control project is projected to be able to contain the roars that occur within the next 30 years.

“The length for this robnya embankment is 3.6 km long. I guess in a 30 year run at a minimum be able to restrain the rob going on. At the moment it is newly built, then if it is completed in August it will only be seen its effectiveness,” President Jokowi said in the review.
