REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH) confirms that the mandatory halal or halal certification obligation has officially taken effect from 18 October 2024 for business operators.

“In order to control the implementation of halal certification obligations as mandated by Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Guarantee, BPJPH will carry out supervision of Halal Product Guarantee simultaneously from October 18, 2024,” BPJPH Head Haikal Hassan said at a press conference held in Jakarta, Thursday (24/10/2024).

To carry out the assurance supervision of such halal products, he said, BPJPH has prepared 1,032 JPH supervisory personnel who have met the requirements to be appointed as supervisors, one of whom, has passed JPH supervisor training.

“BPJPH has set up a JPH supervisory staff. Because according to the regulations, the supervision of this halal certification obligation is the authority of BPJPH. ” he said again.

The involvement of relevant ministries, relevant agencies, and/or local governments in carrying out supervision of JPH can be done after coordinating and cooperating with BPJPH.

This is as stipulated by Law Number 33 of 2014 and Government Regulation (PP) Number 42 of 2024 on the Organization of the Field of Guarantee of Halal Products which replaced the PP Regulation No. 39 of 2021 on the Organization of the Field of Guarantee of Halal Products.

Through the implementation of simultaneous supervision that began on October 18, 2024, JPH supervisory personnel were tasked with tracking down business operators who allegedly did not perform their halal certification obligations.

In line with that data, JPH supervisory personnel also provide advice to business operators to immediately carry out halal certification obligations.

As for the results of the logging carried out by the supervisory authority, it will conduct a review and examination of the alleged violations for the future, it will be determined whether the business operator can be sanctioned in accordance with the regulations.

“I need to reiterate that the sanctions that can be imposed against this violation of the halal certification obligation are only two. Namely administrative sanctions in the form of written warnings, and/or withdrawal of products from circulation including business closure for directly presented products such as restaurants, hotel kitchens, dining houses, and cafes for medium and large scale businesses. he concluded.

He also urged that business operators who do not have halal certification immediately register halal certification of their products. Moreover, at present halal certification can be easily implemented online through the SIHALAL application which can be accessed at the link ptsp.halal.go.id.
