REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marty M Natalegawa, said that Indonesia was ready to support in confidence building and reconciliation process among Rakhine and Rohingya ethnics in Rakhine State, Myanmar.
“Apart from their basic needs such as housing, food, medicines, and education, both parties in Rakhine need some support to confidence building and reconciliation,” Minister Natalegawa said on his written statement on Tuesday evening, as he arrived in Indonesia after a working visit in the province on Jan. 7 and 8.
Rakhine also needs some assistance to build its economy to create more jobs for the better future. “Hence, besides providing assistance worth of 1 million USD for emergency relief including housing, Indonesia is also willing to contribute in confidence building process between both parties and to spur Rakhine’s economy growth,” the minister added.
During the visit, Natalegawa was accompanied by Minister for Border Affairs Thein Htay and Head Minister of Rakhine State, Hla Maung Tin. Natalegawa visited refugee camps in Pauktaw, Sambalay Village, Taungbaw Village, Kyauktaw; Maw-Ya-Wadi village, and Maungdaw. The entourage reached those locations by chopper on Monday. The next day, they visited refugee camps in Ohn-Daw-Gyee and Min Gwan using land transportation.
