Larijani: Holding free elections only solution to Syria crisis

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN -- Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani, in a meeting with his Bolivian counterpart here on Sunday, underlined necessity of adopting a political solution and holding free elections in Syria.

According to the report of Majlis News and Mass-Media Bureau, Larijani met with Bolivia?s parliament Speaker Marcelo Elio Chavez, who is in Tehran to attend the second meeting of parlemantarians of countries known as friends of Syria.

In the meeting, Larijani said that holding the meeting here in this sensitive period of time for Syria with the presence of parliament speakers and heads of foreign policy commissions of parliaments from over 30 countries is an emphasis on necessity of taking a political solution and holding a free and fair election in that country.

Reminding good and friendly relations between Iran and Bolivia, Larijani said that intention of both countries high ranking officials is to expand ties in different political, parliamentarian, and economic fields.

Praising independent and anti-hegemonic stances of Bolivia in international circles, Larijani added that bravery of the Latin American states, including Bolivia, in confrontation with hegemonic policies in regional and international levels are admirable.

Bolivia's parliament speaker said that the US is severely violating human rights by taking wrong policies in the region of the Middle East, such as in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and interfering in domestic affairs of the countries.

Appreciating Majlis suitable move in holding the meeting of Syria friends in Tehran, Chavez said that welcoming the meeting indicated correct stances of Iran's political officials in connection with Syria.

He underlined that Bolivia, like Iran and all independent and free states believes that Syria's crisis should be settled through a political and diplomatic solution and holding a free election.

Chavez also called for using all existing potential capacities for developing relations and cooperation between the two countries in different international arena.
