REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is scheduled to meet and greet hundreds of Indonesian citizens in Malaysia during his two-day visit to the country from Thursday to Friday, stated an official.
"Some 300 Indonesian citizens representing several mass organizations in Malaysia will meet President Jokowi," Deputy Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Harmono noted here on Thursday.
He remarked that the meeting will take place at the Hasanuddin Hall in the Indonesian Embassy building in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
"President Jokowi wants to get closer to the people of Indonesia in Malaysia and to have a dialog with them," Harmono remarked, adding that the gathering will last for about an hour.
Jokowi's two-day visit to Malaysia has been positively welcomed by the Indonesian community in the country.
President Jokowi departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta on Thursday for Kuala Lumpur on a friendship visit to Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and the Philippines.
"President Jokowi is on a friendship visit to Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and the Philippines," State Protocol Chief Ahmad Rusdi stated in Jakarta on Thursday.
When asked to comment on the electronic device advertisement that has hurt the sentiments of the Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, Rusdi revealed that the Foreign Affairs Ministry has launched a protest with the Malaysian Government.
"A protest note has been sent to Malaysia, and now, let us wait for the response from that country," Rusdi remarked.
According to a statement from the State Palace's press bureau, President Jokowi will be in Kuala Lumpur for two days and will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Nadjib Razak.
The head of state will also observe the Malaysian automotive industry and will then attend a gathering of the Indonesian community in Kuala Lumpur.
On Saturday, the president will leave Kuala Lumpur for Brunei Darussalam to meet Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and to sign a bilateral cooperation agreement.
In the afternoon, President Jokowi and his entourage will leave for Manila to meet his Philippine counterpart, Benigno Aquino III.
In Manila, the Indonesian president will also ink a bilateral cooperation agreement with the Philippines and meet the Indonesian community in Manila.
During the visit, President Jokowi is being accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil, Manpower and Transmigration Minister Hanif Dhakiri, Trade Minister Rahmat Gobel, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, and the Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) Chief Nusron Wahid, among others.
