REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Three of the five leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) visited the Attorney General's Office here on Monday to discuss ways to cooperate to eradicate corruption in Indonesia.

"We are here to coordinate with our fellow legal authorities," Deputy Chief of the KPK Zulkarnain said after the meeting on Monday.

Besides Zulkarnain, the other KPK leaders who visited the Attorney General's Office on Monday were acting KPK chief Taufiqurahman Ruki and acting deputy chief Johan Budi. All three leaders arrived at the South Jakarta office at 15:15 hours West Indonesian Time.

A few leaders of the KPK had visited the headquarters of the National Police on Friday (February 20) to meet with Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti.

Earlier, Vice President Jusuf Kalla had expressed hope that the police's relations with the anti-graft agency could be restored following the temporary appointment of the new KPK leaders.

"The conflict between the police and the KPK should be resolved. I believe Taufiqurahman Ruki understands the police," Kalla remarked.

On Wednesday (February 18), President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had decided to appoint Taufiqurahman Ruki, Indarto Senoaji and Djohan Budi as interim leaders of the KPK.

The vice president was optimistic that the three leaders could restore the KPK's ties with the police.

Furthermore, President Jokowi had earlier decided to nominate Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti for the post of the national police chief to replace Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, whose candidacy was embroiled in controversies.

"To pacify the situation and to fulfill the need for a definitive police chief soon, we propose Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti to the House of Representatives to be approved as the national police chief," President Jokowi had stated at the State Palace here on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Jokowi had appealed to Commissioner General Budi Gunawan to contribute his best to the police force and make the institution more professional to gain the people's trust.

Gunawan was previously nominated as the sole police chief candidate by the president, but was later named as a suspect by the KPK in an alleged case of corruption.

Even though he had been named as a suspect, the House of Representatives had approved Gunawan's nomination. However, the president decided to reconsider his installation, citing the KPK's allegations.

In addition, two KPK leaders Abraham Samad and Bambang Widjojanto have been named as suspects by the police. Taking into account another vacant KPK leadership position, the president had announced that he would issue a presidential decision for the temporary discharge of the two leaders.

"Following the presidential decision, a regulation in lieu of law will be issued for the temporary appointment of new KPK leaders, to ensure the smooth functioning of the anti-graft body," he had added.

In accordance with the presidential decision, Taufiqurahman Ruki, Indarto Senoaji and Djohan Budi were appointed as the interim leaders of the anti-corruption agency.
