REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Iran share the view that warring parties in Yemen will be able to solve their conflict peacefully, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla said.
Kalla made the remarks following a meeting with Iranian Vice President for Management and Planning Mohammad Bagher Nobakht at the vice president's office here on Wednesday afternoon.
Both countries believe that the Yemeni conflict can be resolved without violence, he added.
"We did not discuss the issue in detail. We agreed to call on conflicting parties to refrain from violence and settle their conflict," he remarked.
Nobakht met with Kalla to discuss the economic cooperation between the two countries.
He noted that Indonesia and Iran will also cooperate to fight terrorism. "Indonesia and Iran stand firm against violence in any form and terrorism is against humanitarian values and Islamic teachings," he remarked.
Top officials in both countries will follow up on the discussion on cooperation to fight terrorism, he pointed out.
Commenting on the recent execution of drug offenders in Indonesia, Nobakht observed that each country has its own law and regulation that must be respected.
"The two countries need to implement the (strict) law, and it is different from violence or terrorism. Terrorism is a different matter. Implementing the law correctly and properly is worthy of attention," he stressed.
