REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NEW YORK -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Monday condemned South Sudan's decision to expel Toby Lanzer, UN deputy representative to the country.

Ban called on the government of South Sudan to reverse its decision immediately, saying Lanzer, also UN's resident coordinator in South Sudan, "has been instrumental in addressing the increasing humanitarian needs of conflict-affected communities in the country, and ensuring that life-saving humanitarian assistance reaches the most vulnerable," said a statement released by Ban's spokesperson.

According to the statement, Lanzer was coming to the end of his term and Ban on Friday announced his appointment of Eugene Owusu of Ghana to succeed Lanzer.

Toby Lanzer of United Kingdom, was appointed as Ban's deputy special representative in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan in 2012 and will be taking up the post of regional humanitarian coordinator for the Sahel region.
