REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The British Embassy in Jakarta is of the viewpoint that Indonesia can dominate the global economy in the 21st century along with China and India.
British Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Malik stated during a ceremony to mark the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II here on Monday night that along with China and India, which have a large population, Indonesia can dominate the world economy in the 21st century.
"This ceremony is being held to not only mark the birthday of the queen but to also celebrate the partnership between Britain and Indonesia because my motto for Indonesia is to work together and succeed together," Malik noted.
He remarked that the position of Britain, as a country with medium population, relies on partnership or strong cooperation with countries, such as Indonesia.
According to Malik, Indonesia, with its Muslim majority population, is one of the unique countries in the world with vast diversity, democracy, and tolerance, and it certainly has the potential to dominate the world economy.
Therefore, he pointed out that the British Government will continue to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia in various fields such as investment, health, education, and management and will even find solutions to the problems faced globally.
"Based on the research conducted by our government, the future of the world economy will be dominated by the country with the largest population and will be supported by countries having economic growth potential such as Indonesia," Malik remarked.
In the meantime, Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil noted that the value of British investment in Indonesia is increasing every year.
"British investment in Indonesia in 2013 was around US$3 billion and increased significantly to US$5.1 billion in 2014," Sofyan affirmed.
