REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon is sending 450 soldiers to Kuwait for a one-year deployment to aid the fight against the Islamic State (IS/ISIS), the extremist group, the US Army announced Wednesday.

The unit, hailing from III Corps at Fort Hood in the state of Texas, will serve as the headquarters for Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, a multinational effort combating the IS since last summer, said the Army in the announcement.

It's the latest deployment in the year-long campaign against the IS, whose cost, according the Pentagon estimates, amounted for 3.2 billion US dollars.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon confirmed Wednesday that the US military conducted its first drone strike against the IS from a Turkish air base Tuesday after the US military was granted access to two Turkish air bases last month.

While speaking at a briefing, Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said that US military was also planning to conduct manned air strike out of Turkey in the future.
