REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LEBAK -- The ideology of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is misleading as its followers are committed to killing innocent people, stated Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council's (MUI's) Lebak district branch Syatibi Hanbali.

"We have to be on guard against the ideology of ISIS, so that it does not spread in Indonesia," Hanbali remarked in the Lebak district town of Rangkasbitung on Tuesday.

According to Hanbali, the ideology of the ISIS terrorist group is extremely dangerous for the Indonesian nation, and thus, it has to be eradicated completely.

He reiterated that the ISIS ideology is extremely misleading as it is not the correct religious teachings delivered to mankind.

Hanbali noted that the followers of ISIS, which developed in Iraq and Syria, have committed barbaric and cruel acts by killing innocent people in several locations in Paris, France.

Further, he added that the radical movement of ISIS has fought and killed anyone, including Muslims, who refused to follow their teachings.

Therefore, he stated that the ISIS poses a major threat to the life of the Indonesian nation.

Moreover, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and the state philosophy of Pancasila are final, and it is not justified if anyone attempts to replace them.

"We urge the security forces to act decisively against ISIS as it can become a threat to the people of Indonesia," he noted, adding that the MUI should cooperate with the police, religious leaders, communities, and various Islamic organizations to ensure that ISIS teachings should not be allowed to spread in Indonesia.

To prevent the radical movement of ISIS from gaining ground in Lebak district, Hanbali emphasized that a correct approach and clear understanding of the teachings of Islam were necessary.

"To this end, we call on all sections of the society, whether Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists, to increase vigilance against radicalism and terrorism," he added.
