Mass in six cities holds demonstration against religious blasphemy

Muslims marched in front of Sate Building, Bandung City, West Java on Friday (21/10). They urged the police to process law suit against Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama who has insulted the Quran surah Al Maidah verse 51.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) tried to show Jakarta's residents were not alone in overseeing the case of religious blasphemy by Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). The FPI mingled with other organizations held protest in five cities. They expressed Muslims aspiration regarding the case.

The mass urged the police to process the law suit against Ahok who allegedly insulted the Holy Quran surah Al Maidah verse 51. They wanted Ahok to be arrested.

FPI chairman Habib Rizieq said at least six areas held protests after Friday prayers (10/21). At Surabaya (East Java) mass gathered at the Al Akbar Mosque. After Friday prayer, the protesters that comprise of 70 Islamic organizations of united Muslim Movement (GUIB) marched to the East Java Police Headquarters.

Then, in Malang (East Java) demonstration was held in Jami' Mosque town square. They continued to march to City Hall. At least 60 organizations involved in Malang's demonstration. 'In Solo (Central Java), after Friday prayer the mass rally from the Grand Mosque with participants comprise of Islamic organizations from Solo area,'' he said.

Then, mass of 25 Islamic organizations in Bandung (West Java) have rallied from Sate Buiding to Merdeka Building. In Aceh (NAD) after Friday prayer at the Al Makmur (Oman) Mosque, protesters took a long march to the Baiturrahman Mosque.

Meanwhile, the protesters in Jambi province talked to the Police Chief Brigadier General Yazid Fanani. They urged the local police to voice their aspiration to the National Police Chief. As reported by Antara, the mass dissolved in orderly.
